Therefore, test and tag performs a visual inspection of the lead’s insulation, searching for abrasions and inspecting the pins and plug end.

Following the visual inspection, tests such as Earth Continuity, Insulation Resistance, and Polarity are conducted.

A fail sticker will be put on an extension lead if it is incorrect or receives a fail reading. A Test and Tag technician will perform a Plug Top Replacement on the extension lead and retest the item if the plug is damaged or the cables are exposed.

When on site, a compatible extension lead is necessary because it can pose an electrical hazard to both the operator and bystanders.

Harm is often indicated by discoloration or exposed cables from the plug end, and a trained technician may assist in making the extension lead compliant.
